Getting a blank screen or a flashing no signal message on your television when the PlayStation 4 is on is a stressful experience. This issue usually indicates that the console is running but the video signal is failing to transmit or display correctly. Before you consider costly repairs, systematic troubleshooting can often resolve the problem.

Understanding the "No Signal" State

The "No Signal" message originates from your television, not the PlayStation 4 itself. It means the TV is receiving power and turning on, but it is not detecting a valid image input from the HDMI port. This distinction is critical because it directs your troubleshooting away from the console's internal hardware and toward the connection chain.

Check the Physical Connections

The most common cause of this issue is a loose or damaged cable. The connection between the console and the TV is the weakest link in the chain, and it often fails without warning.

Ensure the HDMI cable is firmly plugged into both the PS4 and the TV. You should feel a distinct click when it is seated properly.

Inspect the cable for any fraying, bending, or physical damage. A damaged HDMI cable can transmit power but not the data required for an image.

Try swapping the HDMI cable with one known to be working, such as a cable used for a Blu-ray player or another console.

Power Cycle the Devices
